The Path of Fossil Gas

It is extracted by poisoning

The fossil gas they want to export is extracted through fracking, a technique that poisons water, soil, land, and air. Its practice is linked to direct increases in cases of cancer and respiratory diseases.

Megapipeline is Mega Risk

As a physical barrier, it would fragment ecosystems and divert water runoff and rivers. The gas would come through an 800 km pipeline that would cross large stretches of land, leaking gas along its route.

A city made of steel and fire

The proposed liquefaction megaplant in Puerto Libertad, Sonora, would cover 400 hectares. Its flares would continuously burn and pollute the air.

It would measure roughly 70 Azteca Stadiums.

Whale slaughter vessels

To transport the gas, they would use enormous ships that would sail through the Gulf of California, scaring away and killing the whales that currently inhabit the Aquarium of the World.

They measure 300 meters long, equivalent to twelve adult blue whales.

The route for the LNG tankers is being proposed over the whales' migration paths.

Collisions

One of the main causes of whale deaths is collisions with large ships.

ACOUSTIC POLLUTION

The ability to hear is crucial for whale survival. The noise from the ships would have a very large impact area, disorienting them or even leaving them deaf.
